Silesian Ostrava Castle
- Ostrava's main historical landmark is this fortress. Because the Ostravice and Luina rivers meet nearby, and the Polish border has always been close by, this structure, built in 1280, has played a significant strategic role for hundreds of years.
- It had a gothic design at first, but was transformed into a chateau during the Renaissance period.
- Then, in 1872, it was completely demolished. What is the reason for this? Mining!
- The foundations had been weakened by subterranean tunnels, causing the building to sink 16 meters.
- It has been faithfully restored and is perfectly stable today, with exhibits about the history of Ostrava and the torture methods used in the castle's dungeon.
Miniuni Miniature Park
- For families with younger children, this is a fun diversion. Around 30 models of famous landmarks from around the world are displayed in a landscaped 1.5-hectare park.
- The Brandenburg Gate, the Eiffel Tower, and the Houses of Parliament in London have all been meticulously recreated to a scale of 1:25.
- The Ancient World's Wonders have arrived in this corner of the Czech Republic thanks to a recent update.
- The miniature railways and steamships that ply the park's waterways will enthrall children.
- With lots of greenery and water features, it's a relaxing spot for grown-ups to walk on a sunny day.
