Astypalea Venetian Castle
- Venetian Castle of Astypalea Dodecanese: The Venetian Castle of Querini in Chora town is a magnificent sight, situated royally on top of the hill and made of black stones that present an odd contrast with the white-walled cluster of dwellings around it.
- The conflict for dominance between the Venetians, Byzantines, and Turk rulers is intertwined with the castle's history.
- After the Crusaders' siege of Constantinople in 1204, John Querini, a prominent Venetian family, took control of Astypalea Island. John Querini built the castle.
- The fortress underwent extensive renovation and modification in 1310 under John Quirini II. For more than 300 years, the castle served as the seat of Venetian rule, during which time several alterations were made to the magnificent building.
- The stone plaques bearing the family crest carved by various emperors are one of the treasured mementoes of the noble Venetians.

Astypalaia Must-Attend Festivals and Events
- The feast day of the Virgin Mary, which falls on August 15th, is the most significant holiday for the residents of Astypalea.
