The Best Places to Visit in Turino Ski Region
Bardonecchia
- Since Bardonecchia and Sestriere are the two oldest ski resorts in Italy and can currently accommodate more than 23,000 skiers every hour, it is the ideal location for one of the best ski vacations in the country.
- While it doesn't have quite as much "piste" as Sestriere, 1312 metres above sea level, there are still more than 120 kilometres of recognised piste, which should be more than enough to satisfy any skiers.
- You will have enough to gratify whether you are an expert skier or hopeless like me.
- Snowboarders and cross-country skiers will also experience heaven, which will keep you occupied for many weeks.
- Because Bardonecchia has only 15 km of artificial ski slopes, Sestriere is a preferable option when there isn't much snow.
- Only through December is a lack of snow likely to occur; after that, it is uncommon.
- There are eight challenging pistes on the slopes and six outstanding black routes.
- The remaining slopes are divided into 29 intermediate-level slopes and ten beginner-level slopes.
- Due to its location on the main freeway between Italy and France, Bardonecchia is highly accessible from everywhere in the Val di Susa, including Turin/Torino.
- This makes visiting on a day excursion simple if you base yourself somewhere in the Val di Susa; you can do it even from beautiful Turin.
Sestriere
- Undoubtedly, this is one of Italy's top ski resorts with first-rate amenities and a breathtaking natural environment.
- The hamlet is located in the heart of the via Lattea, or Milky Way in English, a breathtaking collection of mountains and slopes.
- The resort offers fantastic cross-country skiing and more than 400 kilometres of superb ski slopes.
- The slopes are divided into three categories: challenging (30), moderate (73) and easy (42). With more than 75 kilometres of slopes covered in artificial snow, Sestriere offers excellent skiing all season long. Always ski the same hill twice a month, which is reasonably possible.
- Agnelli of Fiat fame allegedly believed that this would be the ideal spot to construct a ski resort and how correct he was. Sestriere owes its popularity and its inception as a ski resort to Agnelli.
- The first Sestriere hotels and Sestriere chalets were constructed shortly after the ski resort began in 1937.
- Since then, the resort has only gotten bigger. The resort is currently regarded as one of the best in the world.
- Since Sestriere was one of the first purpose-built resorts in the world, it is now little more than a world-class ski destination.
- The distinctive village vibe of some of the other Piedmont resorts is what's missing.
- As a result, there are better locations than Sestriere if you want to experience some of Piedmont's culture, history, and gastronomic delights while on your ski vacation.
- However, it provides a fantastic apres-ski scene with more than thirty pubs and a hopping nightlife.
- It provides a variety of beautiful walks for people of all fitness levels during the summer, as well as some problematic climbing routes.

Sauze d’Oulx
- For many years, Sauze d'Oulx has been one of the most well-liked ski resorts, and for a good reason: the modest Piedmont town still offers excellent skiing, fantastic nightlife, and beautiful scenery.
- With more than 400 kilometres of excellent skiing, 95 ski lifts, and 75 km of artificial slopes, Sauze is a part of the renowned Via Lattea or Milky Way in English.
- The town is regarded as the "balcone delle Alpi," or the balcony or entrance to the Alps, and the birthplace of Italian skiing. Being in the Milky Way's centre with easy access to all the nearby resorts makes it a very well-justified title.
- Even Sestriere is accessible via the stunning new chairlift.
- Searching for a family-friendly resort? Then this resort is among the greatest, and the kid-friendly amenities are superb.
- Almost all have English-speaking employees, occasionally lacking in other Italian resorts.
- There are excellent walks and fantastic ice climbing routes up a frozen waterfall, so don't be concerned.
- There is a respectable natural ice rink, a few excellent restaurants, and a charming weekly market if you need to be more active.
Claviere
- This small resort, situated at 1760 metres, has some of the best skiing in Italy and offers everything you could wish for.
- Claviere is a charming little community with over a thousand years of history, excellent skiing in the Milky Way, and breathtaking views. It just takes 90 minutes to drive from Torino to Claviere, making it quite accessible.
- Perfect if you're arriving in Turin by plane. Even taking the train is a good idea. The train from Turin stops at the station of Oulx, where there is frequent public transportation to Claviere. Trains in Italy are affordable and dependable.
- Right in the small village, the Hotel Clari has everything you could need, including a sauna, a gym, and a kids' play area.
- Even better, they arrange for discounts at the local ski and snowboarding schools! Here, cross-country skiing is excellent, with some of the best in Piedmont.
- Those in the know strongly advise taking the 16 km circle from Claviere to Monginevro and back. Cross-country skiing is not for everyone like it is for me, but all is not lost.
- There are more than 400 kilometres of excellent downhill slopes in Claviere and the surrounding area. The after-ski scene is excellent. Although not nearly as active as Bardonecchia or Setriere, the town has a lot of fun and has several fantastic restaurants serving traditional Piedmontese cuisine.
- You're in for a treat because many people consider Piedmont's cuisine to be the best in all of Italy.
- Treat yourself to dinner at 'L Gran Bouc in Via Nazionale, 24A, after a hard day on the slopes.
- Make sure you purchase the very priced Claviere ski pass, which gives you access to unlimited skiing in Cesana and Claviere.

- The Olympic Mountains hosted the first national and international skiing events.
- One hundred years later, roughly 500 days before the main Olympic event, Turin honours the originator of skiing, the unmistakable emblem of winter sports.

Sip Vermouth
#Food
- When Italian distiller Antonio Benedetto Carpano created a version of vermouth in the 18th century that mixed pricey wine with less expensive herbs and spices, Turin was designated as the birthplace of aromatic wine.
- Today, you may treat yourself to one of their famous tramezzino sandwiches at Caffè Mulassano while sipping on various outstanding fortified wine selections. This is one of our favourite activities in Turin.
Mercato di Porta Palazzo
#Food
- Mercato di Porta Palazzo is the best spot to go if you want an authentic taste of Turin's regional cuisine.
- The biggest outdoor market in Europe gives consumers a variety of fresh vegetables, cheeses, bread, cured meats, and gourmet goods at affordable prices.
- Just be sure to bring your sharpest bartering techniques!
Turin's Markets
#Fashion
- Visit the markets for serious shopping in Turin and excellent deals; almost every district in the city has its local market.
- The Porta Palazzo market at Piazza della Republica is the most well-known.
- This enormous market, which sells practically anything you can think of, including fish, shoes, and a variety of other strange and unique items, is the largest in Europe.
- The Gran Balon antique market, which takes place in the exact location every second Sunday of the month, must be seen to be believed.
- One of the largest antique marketplaces in the world, Grand Balon, has some incredible bargains, but you should allow plenty of time because there is so much to see and discover there.
Monterosa Ski Resort
#Fun
- Technically speaking, Monterosa isn't a resort in and of itself.
- Instead, it is the name of a sizable massif on the Swiss-Italian border and the (primarily) lift-connected ski region that includes several communities dispersed across three valleys.
- There is now 180 km of lift-connected slopes connecting the three valleys and the resorts of Champoluc-Frachey, Gressoney la Trinite-Stafal, and Alagna-Valsesias, thanks to recent investments in new lifts.
- Skiing up to 3,000 metres provides breathtaking views of Piemonte and the Aosta Valley.

- The Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, Reggia di Venaria, and Castello della Mandria are three Parchi Reali (Royal Parks) that highlight Turin's royal past and are all within a short drive from the Residenza dell'Opera.
- The latter is situated within the Mandria Natural Park, a protected and UNESCO World Heritage Site area. Thanks to the protected structures - including churches, farmhouses, and castles - housed there, the park offer a distinctive combination of natural legacy and architectural heritage.
- It's well worth a day trip to explore a park that provides excellent relaxation and another opportunity to learn about Piedmont's history.
- The ski area was "reborn" for the 2003–2004 ski season when the magnificent Funifor cable car completed the circuit's long-planned link between the Gressoney–La Trinite and Valsesia resorts (themselves connected to Champoluc).
- Nowhere in the Monterosa ski resort area has a significant après ski culture but depending on which valley or village you choose to stay in, the area is perfect for families and free riders due to its tranquillity.
