The Best Places to Visit in Eindhoven
The Van Abbemuseum
- The Van Abbemuseum, which first opened in 1936, is one of the Netherlands' most important modern and contemporary art museums.
- In 2003, the structure was renovated, and a massive and futuristic expansion — a work of architectural art in and of itself – was added, surrounded by an aquatic moat.
- The museum's permanent collection contains works by world-renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Marc Chagall, and El Lissitzky, as well as a constantly changing array of always exciting temporary exhibitions.
- On Tuesdays between 3 and 5 p.m., admission to the museum is free.
Dutch Design Week
- In October, over 2,600 designers gathered in Eindhoven to present their work during Dutch Design Week, which has grown to become the most significant design event in Northern Europe (DDW).
- Over 350,000 guests from all over the Netherlands and the world attend the famous week-long festival.
- Workshops, seminars, exhibitions, and talks by notable figures from all areas of the design industry, from technology to fashion, take place at more than 100 locations throughout the city.
- DDW places a strong emphasis on developing emerging talent for the future.
Architecture walking tour
- The Evoluon, Eindhoven's most remarkable structure, is shaped like a flying saucer and was once a technological museum before becoming an events venue.
- The central Vesteda Toren, which resembles New York's Flatiron Building, stands out on the skyline, while De Admirant, at 105m (344ft), is the city's highest building.
- Nearby lies De Blob, a strangely amorphous structure, and across the street is the White Lady, a remarkable former Philips lightbulb factory.
- On one end of its heptagonal Light Tower, the top floors burned like a permanent beacon, as this was where the company tested the lifespan of their light bulbs.

Historic churches
- The Old Tower was previously a component of a Brabantine gothic church, which was built in the 15th century on the site of an 11th-century original.
- The 43m (141ft) tower is now all that remains, yet it is the town's oldest structure and a must-see for history buffs.
- The central Augustinian church, built in the neo-gothic style in 1898, is another must-see attraction.
- It was deconsecrated in 2017 after surviving World War II largely unscathed; the surrounding monastic cloisters are now a conference centre and deluxe boutique hotel.
The Philips Museum
- The name Philips is intrinsically related to the modern history of Eindhoven.
- Discover how a tiny family firm that began making lamps in 1891 grew into the international brand it is today at the Philips Museum.
- It features exhibitions that include a re-creation of the old workshop on the site of the first Philips factory in the city centre.
- One little-known truth about the company is how, like Oskar Schindler, Frits Philips, who was in charge, used his factories to create a haven for local Jews during World War II.
