The Best Places to Visit in Saba
Mt Scenery
- Mt Scenery (887m), a dormant volcano that last erupted in 1640, is the summit of the pyramid-shaped island of Saba and is regarded as the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
- With 200-year-old mountain mahogany trees covered with orchids, bromeliads, and other epiphytes, it is blanketed in the elfin forest (cloud forest).
- The Mt Scenery Trail in Windwardside begins just west of the Trail Shop and ascends 1064 stairs.
- Before going outside, check the weather forecast because rain might make the stairs very slick.
- The best time to start is around 9 or 10 in the morning, so you can get to the summit around midday when it's not as overcast.
- The new Elfin Forest Trail, which leaves at Upper Hell's Gate, is another route leading to Mount Scenery's summit.
Jobean Glass Art Studio
- Jobean, a local artist, operates out of a vibrant studio atop Booby Hill.
- In a half-day glass workshop, you're given a torch and an endless supply of thin glass shafts to melt into whirling balls or cylinders, and then you make beads of every form and size by adding gold foil and funny things.
- You can keep the things you make or stop by and look around the store.
- Plates constructed from wine and Heineken bottles, as well as a wide variety of big and small animals, are some of Jobean's more eccentric designs.
Cove Bay
- One of the island's two ocean bathing areas, this small cove offers excellent snorkelling in calm weather and is protected from currents by a boulder-built seawall.
- There is only a little stretch of grainy sand and no amenities; the mornings are the sunniest. It's a 150-meter descent from the airport.
- Make pickup arrangements with your driver or request a taxi at the airport to take you back to your lodgings.
