The Best Places to Visit in Valladolid

destination - Seasons to travel

The Convent Of San Bernardo

  • This lovely convent is well worth visiting and only costs a few bucks to enter.
  • It's a nice walk there through cobblestone streets, and if you go around lunchtime, you might find the spot to yourself.
  • You have the option of going inside and exploring the covenant.
  • Inside, a tiny museum also describes how cenotes were discovered and what was left behind them, which is fantastic.
  • The traditional "Valladolid" sign is also on the grounds around the monastery, which is colourful and a little worn down, but you have to get your picture taken there!
destination - Seasons to travel

Cenote Zaci

  • Cenote Zaci is the only cenote in Valladolid that is essentially in the town.
  • There is no need to take public transportation; you can easily walk there.
  • There are numerous signs, or the tourist information centre may give you excellent maps (as well as free information) to assist you!
  • You can swim in this cenote or watch from the platform.
  • It costs 30 pesos (about $1) to enter. ‍
  • If you plan to swim or take pictures, ensure your camera is waterproof!
destination - Seasons to travel

Chichen Itza

  • Chichen Itza is a fantastic destination to visit, and if you only have time to see one set of Mayan ruins in Mexico, make it Chichen Itza.
  • It had to be on the list of top things to do in Valladolid because the two are so closely linked!
  • It's costly since it's so popular, and it's all for charging more money because I've been to better ruins in Mexico for a fraction of the price! Anyway, that's the end of my tirade.
  • Tours to Chichen Itza can be reasonably priced, or you can remain in Valladolid and either rent a moped for $20 for 24 hours or take one of the collectivos (shared minibuses) for a few pounds.
  • You can also take a taxi or join an organised excursion.

Merida

  • Merida, Yucatan's capital, is a lovely city with a beautiful mix of old and new.
  • It's brimming with bits of colonial history and culture, mainly because it's been the region's cultural hub for generations.
  • With many stores, marketplaces, museums, and events, it's not as touristic as many other towns in Yucatan, and it's one of those places you want to explore as much as you can.
  • Regular buses run there, but you can also reach there in around 2 hours by driving.
