Mont Orgueil Castle

  • The castle at Mont Orgueil, located on the island's eastern side, provides stunning views of the seaside town of Gorey.
  • Before Elizabeth Castle became the island's primary fortress in the 16th century, the castle had been a landmark of the island for more than 800 years.
  • The castle, which was no longer the island's main stronghold, was converted into a jail, where some of the people who had authorised Charles' execution were imprisoned.
  • The castle was rendered obsolete by St. Helier prison and transformed into a tourist destination where people can now learn about the castle's fascinating past.
destination - Seasons to travel

Jersey War Tunnels

  • Explore the over 1 km of tunnels that the slave labourers on the island carved out during World War II.
  • Only 15 minutes from the capital, the Jersey War Tunnels offer a singular opportunity to learn more about the island's past.
  • The Jersey war tunnels were later converted into an emergency hospital in 1943, helping the German troops survive air raids and other attacks during the Second World War.
  • In the tunnels, you can read moving accounts of some of the islanders' personal experiences and gain a fascinating perspective on what life was like during the war.
destination - Seasons to travel

Corbière Lighthouse

  • One of the most breathtaking sights on the island is the Corbière Lighthouse, which is situated in a southwestern direction and has a picturesque causeway as a backdrop.
  • Low tide is the ideal time to travel there on foot or a bicycle. The stunning St Ouen's Bay on the west gives you your first look at the lighthouse before you travel through valleys lined with trees to get to the rocky walkway.
  • Numerous rock pools are filled with the island's distinctive marine life closer to the lighthouse.
  • You can refuel at the Corbière Phare Restaurant, where you'll find fresh fish, pasta, and a variety of dishes made with regional ingredients if all that walking has worked up an appetite.

  • Due to long-standing conflicts with France, Jersey has a unique combination of language and culture.
  • Avoid referring to the island's inhabitants as English or British; it has a stronger affinity with England and tends to be more affluent.
