A Sneak Peek into Newquay
- On Cornwall's north coast, Newquay is best known as the surfing and party hub of the county.
- The superb surfing, vibrant nightlife, and family-friendly attractions attract visitors.
- Newquay accommodates this broad mix of guests well, and there's a lot to see and do here.
- As Cornwall's largest and busiest tourist destination, Newquay will not let you down.
- Newquay, to me, feels different from the rest of Cornwall; it nearly has the vibe of a Costa Rican resort (without the promised sunshine!).
- The bucket and spade crowd will be rubbing shoulders with a younger crowd, intent on partying as hard as possible.
- Stag and hen groups terrorise pubs and clubs, while many retirees spend their days reminiscing about their youth.
- Newquay isn't particularly sophisticated, but that's part of its appeal.
- Regardless of what people believe or say about Newquay, it remains the most popular resort town in Cornwall, which says a lot.
- There's plenty for everyone here, including family-friendly beaches, boisterous nightlife, fantastic surf, and even some top-notch restaurants.

The Best Places to Visit in Newquay
Fistral Beach
- Although surfing may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of the United Kingdom, Cornwall is the country's surfing hotspot.
- Fistral Beach is a lovely expanse of golden sand that is frequently referred to as one of Britain's top beaches and has even been voted as such by TripAdvisor.
- It's directly near Newquay's harbour, making it a terrific place to watch surfers take on some big waves or relax with a picnic on the beach.
- Fistral is Cornwall's most famous surfing beach, and it does not disappoint.
- It's a must-see for any surfer, with world-famous breaks and various waves to suit all skills
Trerice
- Because of Cornwall's milder temperature, there are plenty of lovely gardens to visit during your visit.
- Trerice, a National Trust-owned Elizabethan manor home with lovely grounds on the outskirts of Newquay, is a fascinating Elizabethan manor house with beautiful gardens.
- Many travellers' wish lists for their Newquay holiday include Trerice.
- Before coming inside to learn about the house's history and its tenants over the ages, take a stroll through the picture-perfect gardens, including the magnificent Knot Garden.
- Furthermore, even though you'll have to forego the gardens, I'd recommend visiting Trerice Manor as one of the top rainy-day activities in Newquay.
Watergate Bay
- Watergate Bay, though not in Newquay proper (it's about three miles out of town), is a must-see on any holiday to Newquay.
- The beach is a sun-dream lover in the summer, with two miles of silky fine sand ideal for soaking up some rays or a family day out in Cornwall.
- The surf is regularly good, as it is on many of Newquay's beaches, luring you into the ocean.
- Watergate Bay is generally calmer than other of Newquay's more central beaches, so it's an excellent option to avoid the crowds during the summer.

Porth Beach
- Porth Beach, another of the town's beautiful beaches, is one of the most incredible things to do in Newquay.
- With its vast picture-perfect stretch of sand, Porth Beach is also an excellent area to go rock pooling when the tide is out.
- For breathtaking views, take the tiny footbridge to Porth Island; while you're there, keep an eye out for Trevelgue Head, an ancient cliff fort and hamlet.
- During the summer months, there is a seasonal prohibition on surfing from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; thus, Porth Beach is a fantastic alternative if you want to splash around in the sea without ducking and dodging around surfboards.
Oceanflow Yoga
- At Oceanflow Yoga, you can work on your poses and stretch out your tensions.
- The vistas alone are reason enough to visit this welcoming yoga studio in Newquay, housed in a spacious Victorian structure facing Fistral Bay.
- With a diverse class schedule spanning from Hot Yoga to Energise and Sunrise Flow, it's easy to see why it's been chosen as Cornwall's best yoga studio.
- The great trainers and inviting courses make this the perfect venue to decompress after an early morning surf or revitalise your body for the day ahead, whether you're a complete novice or practise every day.

Zacry's at Watergate Bay Hotel
#FOOD
- This newly opened restaurant within the Watergate Bay Hotel takes its name from the square, a rocky outcropping at the beach's southern end, and is a lively alternative to Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Cornwall (just a stone's throw away).
- The reeded glass, leather banquettes, zinc refectory tables, and black-and-white chevron tiling create a bright, modern brasserie ambience.
- At the same time, the kitchen serves seasonal meals with solid and assertive flavours.
- From crisp rock shrimp with KP spicy mayo and white truffle oil to grilled artichokes, salted almonds, lemon, and fresh curd to sea bass niçoise, pork loin chop with maccheroni and greens, and Fiorentina steak for two with rosemary potatoes, American and Mediterranean influences loom big.
Beach Hut
#FOOD
- The Beach Hut, located beneath Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, is undoubtedly one of the top coastal eateries in north Cornwall.
- Inside, Californian cool meets Cornish cool, but the attention is attracted to perhaps the best surf beach.
- The classics are great burgers, locally caught mackerel (fried or grilled), and more expensive rib-eye steaks, followed by the squid with aoli and lemon or local crab with a seaweed and cucumber salad, ponzu, and wasabi dressing.
- Courteous, efficient employees complement the laid-back ambience, and the child-friendly approach extends to activity books, crayons, and child seats.
The Terrace at the Headland Hotel
#FOOD
- The Terrace, a contemporary restaurant of the gorgeous five-star Headland Hotel, is located just minutes from Newquay's famous Fistral Beach.
- The Terrace offers a less formal dining experience than the hotel's other two restaurants, with a menu inspired by the stunning coastline just a few feet away.
- The Terrace is ideal for all situations, whether you're searching for a fast sandwich for lunch or a romantic evening meal, as it offers breathtaking views of the sea and a stylish yet calm ambience in which to enjoy your meal.
Watershed
#FASHION
- Watershed Brand arose from the popularity of the Watershed Surf Shop concept store in Newquay, which debuted in 2012.
- After a few years of carrying well-known brands like Levis, Converse, and Dickies, they began to create, manufacture, and test their items.
- They also decided in early 2015 that it was time to split Watershed from the rest of the corporation.
- It's now being pumped full-time. Watershed is one of the most well-known surf, apparel, and grooming shops in Newquay.
- They also offer a laid-back, rustic cafe on-site.
Wave Project
#FASHION
- Wave Project is more than simply another boutique on Newquay's main thoroughfare.
- They operate award-winning surf therapy and beach school programmes all over the United Kingdom.
- Their store on Fort Street can be visited while shopping in Newquay, but their gear is also available online, where you can buy fantastic surf-related clothing.
- The Wave Project provides free surf-therapy classes to persons who have been diagnosed with mild to severe mental illnesses.
- Since 2018, the shop has aided in funding their efforts, ensuring that the surf therapy courses remain free.

- Whatever the weather, there's something for everyone at Flambards, from adrenaline seekers to those who prefer a slower pace.

- The Carousel and its colourful horses promise traditional enjoyment, and Ferdi's Funland offers plenty of rides and games for the little ones.
Camel Creek Adventure Park
#FUN
- When you visit Camel Creek Adventure Park, you can expect a boatload of family fun!
- It's a must-see for the whole family, with fun rides for the small ones, exciting rides for the big kids, and loads of activities.
- Allow the kids to meet Swampy and Dina, two Camel Creek residents, with their attractions!
- Swampy's Sky Ride is a miniature Ferris Wheel that provides panoramic views of the park, while Dizzy Dina combines all the excitement of teacups with a bit of added spring in its step.
- It's also close to Toddler's Village, so even the tiniest kids may have a good time.

Newquay: Natural Beauty & Safari Adventures
- Prepare yourself for caverns, rock pools, and jagged and majestic cliffs carved by centuries of the relentless sea on this trek, which is ideal for showing you all the Atlantic offers.
- Starting from Porth, go up the coastal path toward Watergate Bay (with your back to Newquay) for panoramic views of the beautiful bays where you can observe a variety of seabirds and if you're lucky, some sea life.
- You know there will be something spectacular to see as you mount the hill, and you will not be disappointed when the enormous vision of Watergate Bay with its three miles of the golden beach comes into view.
- We're headed to the boating lake for our next walk, so put on those waterproof boots.
- On the edge of the Gannel, you'll find the entrance to the seaside route if you can tear yourself away from the delightful Fern Pit café.
- It's crucial to monitor the tide times because your path is only visible at low tide. Follow the path of the bridge across the Gannel, which flows out to the Atlantic.
- The occasional fishing boat may take cover here now and again, although seabirds, ponies, and dog walkers are more common visitors.
- The picturesque circular path of Porth Reservoir is located away from the windy coast and more inland.
- The region, once the estates of Nanswhyden House and Fir Hill Manor, is now a nature reserve where deer, fox, and rabbits can be seen.
- The walk passes by bird hides on the wooded path, formerly the estate's grand entrance.
- The path itself takes you past the ruins of the homes as it passes through Trengove, past a ford, and onto the charming village of Colan and its church.
- The stroll offers views of the river and passes by various fauna and wildflowers (and an exceptional display of bluebells in spring).
